Slackware 8.1

Hi all,

Will Slackware 8.1 run smoothly on this machine (older laptop), or should I opt for an older release?

P200
72mb ram
2gig hdd

Also does the slackware come with any boot managers (e.g. grub)? Thanks in advance guys.

A desktop would be interesting... KDE is getting a little more demanding. Might wanna try ICE or some other lightweight. the *nix part is always gonna be good and fast. If you try KDE 3 on that system, please tell us how it went- on my 450mHz K6-2 with 64MB KDE 2 ran more smoothly than win98. Consider that.

Hi TMAN,

Thanks for the reply. I'm running windows 98 on that laptop right now. I'll give Slackware 8.1 a try when I have time and will let you guys know how it turned out.

Slackware doesn't come with grub, but it comes with LILO. Slackware is designed to be compatible with systems as far back as the 386. Should run fine.
