Smile Mandrrake 9.0- can't shut down.

I recently installed Mandrake Linux 9.0 on my old 533mhz compaq computer, and everything works great except for one thing. When I try to shut down my computer, it says "shutting down" and goes through the check list, then at the bottom it says shutting down, and my computer does the beeuewwww noise like it's shutting down- except it's still on. Any ideas? I'll be happy to give you any other information that you need. Thanks.
