Hi!,
Ok nothing major here. You are booting into runlevel 3. Also knowen as the CLI. After you log in, type "startx" without quoes. This starts the x-server and you should be taken to the KDE desktop. Now this is a good way to start your OS. But if want to start in the graphic mode, go to the menu, click on Configuration, click on Mandrake Control Center, enter your root password, click ok, then click on the boot icon, then select Launch Graphic startup on boot. Click Ok. Then the next time you boot you will see a graphical login prompt. OOPS!

say OOPS do you have any idea how you can use multiple desktops with the startx command (windowmaker, blackbox, kde)
i currently use 8.2 with graphical bootup and a popup box where i choose login name and desktop i want. is it possible to get to this box using the startx command? when i change to non graphic bootup it auto loads kde when i type startx |

Hi,
All you need to do is type "startx desktopname". Without the quotes of course. And that should do it. Holy cow! after looking at my reply, I had a very bad day with spelling and grammar! Sorry! I guess I'd better blame it on the natural keyboard (I hate them things ).OOPS! |
