I'm trying to install a local printer on a Sun Ultra60 running Solaris 2.6
The problem I'm having is that the computer doesn't seem to see it's paralell port. According to all the info I can find, it should be /dev/bpp0 bot when I give it that address and send a test print to it, I get a no such device message. I've tried rebooting with a boot -r with no luck. I'm thinking I must be missing something here.. Any ideas?? |

Hi CRC:
I dont know if I am right but I think I've read that the Solaris 2.1 didnt have printing on || port!! Hopefully it is now there. Check out /dev/MAKEDEV on how to create the proper dev.node. I think you have to do a makedev bpp0 in the /dev directory. HTH Let me know if it does/nt |

Thanks Ex-Static-Cling , I'll give that a try in a few hours when I'm at the office again. This printer was hooked up to the paralell port on this Ultra60 2 weeks ago and working fine, the user managed to tank the hard drive (don't ask.....), so of course all the previous settings are gone. The guy who set it up on that system left almost 9 months ago, and didn't document a single thing he did (of course). So I know it can work, I just can't quite figure out how

Gotta love them UNIX gurus .. they manage to make themselves indispensable and their absence felt more than their presence

Well, no such luck... I didn't get too much time to play with it today, but when I tried a makedev bpp0 in the /dev directory, I got a ' can't open bpp0 ' error.
I'll work on it a bit more tomorrow and let you know.... |
