I'm going to take a wild guess on this one, (Since I don't use XP ) What if you put a shortcut to the folder you want to share on the desktop and do it that way.
( You may have much better luck in the windows forums than this one ....)

truppj:

Does the folder on your desktop have a hand under it (indicating that you permitted it to be shared)? If not then you need to specifically designate it as shared: right click the folder, properties, sharing, share this folder on the network.

You then need to set up your client PC to find the folder by going to Network Neighborhood (or My Network Places) and choosing: add a network place.

I tried it too and does not work, i havn't researched but my guess is simply that you can not do that. It won't even let me change the read only setting on a floder if I put it on my desktop.
