I've been playing around with Mac OS X at the University for quite a while now, and have come to like it's stability and memory managment. Has anyone else here even used a OS X machine?

I've always liked the Mac Desktop .. my ideal situation would be having BSD as a server, and a Mac for my office needs... but alas the Mac has been dying a slow death [apart from Jobs hawking out colored toilet seats].

I've tried the OS X as a test run just cos I had too much time on my hands, configuration though a cinch, it such a poor cousin to its claims of having elements of the Mach 4. IMO, the OS X in its preview releases exhibitted an almost HURD-like performance. What it lacks in sheer "server" performance it makes up for in being able to double as a stable client machine... and it looks real nice doing it.
The issue is stability .. for example, if you were to look at hardcore win users .. they jump for the server grade of winders [if their h/w can hold up to it] cos of one issue STABILITY. They are pretty much sick of the FAT32 and the kernel and the ... of Win9x and simply want something that stays put. But I dont see the popularity for the Mac, cos the OS of macs are so rock solid that its hard to imagine why the switch.

What did u have serving out of it?

Dont u think Jobs is really pushing his luck... would anyone be real keen to get rid of ye olde x86+BSD and have a G4 [at those cheap costs!!!] as a server?

It's actually being used on all of the Computer Sci computers in the labs. All G3 machines with 128MB of RAM. The only thing I don't like is their start time...and the expanding icons on the "dock."

It's even running on the server...so I guess that's why the clients take so long to start up. Although I've heard of M$ IE crashing OS X at times, I've never seen it happen where the computer needed to be restarted.
