microsoft mice and AV

alright, this will make you laugh

my gf gave me a microsoft wireless optical mouse for christmas

I'm sure some programmer out there has written something just to spite them. Is there a repository for drivers etc.

don't know... hope I don't have to take this back or go through some crazy thing w/ an old serial. Thought I saw my friend w/ an old wired optical... Anyways...

yes, I was also curious about av-- 3rd party only?

thanx

I don't know that a wireless mouse works or not with your Alternative Operating System, but the quickest way to find out is to try it !! If the connection on the PC end is USB, it will probably need to be configured as a USB device, if it connects some other way -- anyway, you get the picture, it depends on the PC connector.

Drivers are always available and may in fact be already installed, but again it depends on which Alternative Operating System you are using. So some details (i.e., BeOS, Linux, BSD, etc.) would be in order.

Anti-Virus is always third party. If you are running Linux, there are some becoming available as the crackers are well on their way to discovering the best Alternative Operating System on the planet!! Do a inquiry at www.google.com/linux on "antivirus".

linux!-- haha

yeah, sorry I just always think of this as the linux portion of the forum and don't even think about it.

yeah, I'll give it a shot when I get a chance-- been pretty busy.

I was wondering more about an open source version of AV-- I've seen commercial stuff for sale, but I wasn't sure if people had actually contributed to a group AV definition list and then someone had taken the time to write something.

thanx, I'll do a little more research. I was just curious if any die-hard linux fans knew of something I didnt'

If you do a google search, you'll see some commercial av products and some free stuff, too. Just be careful, if you see something that looks good, do some more research. This is fairly new territory.

yeah, I found an open-AV group via google. They were barried somewhere on sourceforge-- I love sourceforge.

the mouse works ok, except the sensitivity is a little weird. I used the "Microsoft Intellimouse" driver under kudzu. I don't know if it's weird cause I need to toy w/ the settings in the Kontrol Panel (or whatever KDE calls it), or if I need to poke around for another driver.

Both projects will have to wait a few more days though because I'm visiting family.

thanx

Nate
