Well have had Mandrake running couple days now with help here. Am now trying to load a different browser. Have downloaded both Mozilla and Opera. Am unable to get them to load. When I click on them they just keep opening folders. I click ones that .exe and .inf but still no load.

The folders thing sounds llike you're inside a package viewing the contents. Did you extract? There is no such thing as .exe or .inf in linux. Extensions are unnecessary. Besides that, windows executables won't work in linux (without help at least). Sounds like you dled the wrong package. Find an rpm package (.rpm) and double click that then go to the "start" menu and run it. Or you could find a source tarball (.tar.gz or .tgz), extract, compile, run from conole.
Mozilla should already be loaded. If not you can load mandrake control center and install it. HTH Last edited by TMAN; 12-28-2002 at 05:19 PM. |

Hi,
Tman sounds right, sounds like the wrong files. To give you some help here, here is a list of sources I use to add programs. urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.stealth.net/pub/mirrors/ft.../contrib/RPMS/ with ../../i586/Mandrake/base/hdlist2.cz urpmi.addmedia djbware ftp://ftp.rpmhelp.net/pub/Mandrake/djbware/9.0/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia jpackage.free http://jpackage.sf.net/rpm/free with hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia jpackage.nonfree http://jpackage.sourceforge.net/rpm/non-free with hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia main ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/m.../Mandrake/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://plf.chem.yorku.ca/pub/plf/9.0 with hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia rpmhelp ftp://ftp.rpmhelp.net/pub/9.0/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia texstar ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/dist...drake/9.0/rpms with hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://ftp.stealth.net/pub/mirrors/ft...ates/9.0/RPMS/ with ../base/hdlist.cz To use these, open a term, su to root, copy and paste these (or just the ones you want), hit enter, and wait for urpmi to add and update the sources. The one I recommend is the texstar site. It will have MozillaXFT on it. Works great, I'm using it. Texstar is a very popular person amoung Mandy users. He compiles programs specifically for Mandy. And they are all very good (often better than what you can get from Mandrake). Here's a link to his site: http://www.pclinuxonline.com/ Almost forgot, These sources will show up in grpmi (the gui front-end) also. HTH, OOPS!

Big thanks for replies. Should keep me occupied for a period of time.
Chas PS If Mozilla is already present with Mandrake where do I find it? Konqueror shows up in bar at bottom of screen. |

1.) the easy way:
Since you're in KDE youcan simply go to the K start menu button -> networking -> WWW -> mozilla (at least thats how it is in mandy 8.1) 2.) the sort of easy way: if you don't see it in the menu, go to console (Konsole) and type mozilla 3.) Install: if the command doesn't work go to the mandrake control center -> system -> software manager. Search for mozilla, click it and install. All of this is referenced from mandy 8.1 so I don't know how this will relate to you. HTH |
