ok I got Mandrake 7.2 and would like to install it as a dual boot with ME. I have a few questions though as my first install did work but I am now reinstalling due to I screwed something up and Mandrake wouldnt boot.
1. How should I set up my partitions?? I have a 30gb hdd and would like to be able to access my mp3's from both OS's 2. I am having trouble getting my internet connection in Linux, how do I go about setting this up. I have cable service with a Linksys NIC 3. umm, I know there was another but I forgot...will get back to that.... Thanks in advance!!! Eric |

it depends on how you want to use your partitions.
Do you want to have most of the space in your Primary Partition or your Linux Partition? Here are some websites that tell you how to setup an Internet connection with Linux. http://www.linuxmall.com/resources/n...netaccess.html http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/L...linux-ppp.html http://www.networkcomputing.com/unix...013.part1.html Don't use 100% of your Hard Drive space when you make the primary partition for Windows. Only use a percentage amount you really need..then install Linux..Linux will use the remaining space or will ask you how much of it do you want to use. Correct me anybody if I am wrong..dont know too much on Linux ![]() if those websites don't tell you how to configure a connection with a cable modem..here is a great website http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/cmodem8.html Hope that helps! Although you can probably set this up on version 7.2 Mandrake, I personally would choose to go to a newer version, especially since you are going to be on a high-speed connection, and would benefit from the better firewalling, and security aspects of version 9.0 As an added bonus, version 9.0 would handle the setup of your internet connection with wizards and the support for newer system hardware would be much better
The newer versions of Mandrake will usually detect a Fat 32 Win partition, and set up a mount point in the Linux /mnt directory for it. The root admin user can read/write to a mounted fat 32 partition for mp3s and such. You can partition a lot of ways, but you only really need (1) ext2 or ext3 (prefered) partition mounted as / (the root partition )5 gig or so would be nice) and 1 linux swap partition (a couple hundred meg or better is o.k) The MS OS should be installed first, if it isn't already. Backup your important data before installing linux on your drive. Hope this helps -MS
