Angry Networking Linux Mandrake

HELP somebody please. i am having a great deal of trouble putting a linus mandrake machine on a network.
The setup ie got is a 4 machine network controlled by a router. 2 machines are XP and the 3rd is Windows 2000. the 4 is ofcourse this one. while i can get internet on it (which comes in through the router) i cannot see any of the other machine on the network.
I have tried running the LISa thing and auto config the ReLISa but this does not seem to work!
Since i am very new to linux this may just be driver error - but it is driving me insane since all my stuff was put onto another machine on the network before the pre-linux-install format.
any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Khayman,

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I've been able to configure Samba and SMBclient... but can't browse the network. However, I went to a command prompt and ran smbclient, and even though I got a couple errors, I was able to get to my share on my XP box.

I thought it very odd that it worked, so I went back into a file manager (Konqueror I think it was) and was then able to browse to the XP machine, but it bogged down very badly. I found a doc somewhere that says browsing the network with Linux (regardless of which file manager you use) wil be insanely slow.

haha... well, welcome to the world of "wanting to learn". I have a second drive in my machine as well (it's my old gaming rig, since turned into a learning experience) and still can't figure out how to access the darned thing. I was able to get it formatted and all, but trying to access it is like getting candy away from a 2 year old.

Somehow, I managed to mount it and browse to it (again, from a command prompt) but I have so little time to play with it, I tend to forget what I did right!

Don't give up hope though. Check out all the sites that are in one of the other posts... there are a ton or links. Some user groups are good, some just tell you to read the MAN and brush you off. Also, go out and get a book... can't hurt.
