Boot Loaders

Hi,

I currently have Windows XP Professional Installed on my primary 20GB HD and I have a 2nd HD, which is 6GB, which I use a a drive to backup important data onto. Now, my problem is that I would like to setup Linux as a secondary OS and then windows 2000 also. I need a bootloader which is very easy to use/install and lets me choose which OS I want to start everytime I turn my computer one.
I am planning to get a new HD soon, which I am going to use to do all of this non-sense, I guess I'll eliminate the 6gig drive as the new drive may be in excess of 60 Gigabytes or more.

Please help.

3 Operating Systems, XP, W2k, RH... and possibly OSX .

*sigh*, I asked for help.
Not one word answers.
Put a little thought into it ayou'll figure out that I've already thought about grungie grub and lilo.
Remember that I already have an pre-exsisting installationa and need to copy everything over to the new drive, I won't be RE-installing XP

Heheh .. sorry for the short reply .. am really tied up. But my answer would still stand .. grub would be my choice for bootloading your XP, W2K and RH partitions. Its the least troublesome of the lot, and is very easy to install and use. Check out the grub howto's and you should see how to use grub with your situation

Couldn't agree more. Setting up a dual boot system with win2k and RH 7.3 was a breeze using Grub. It's pretty simple to configure during the install, as long as you know where everything is located on your hdd(s). HTH

RH ships with Grub. Anyway, it all depends on how critical ur server is .. I have no issues with the versions of grub that are out there.

Hi,

Another method is to us a third party boot manager like the one at this site.....http://www.sadevelopment.com

It's the best one that I have ever seen and it allows you to add or remove operating systems with no affect on the other systems.

I have a question.
If I have Darwin running on my system, that dosen't nessesarly mean I can toss MacOS components in the install and expect it to work? Yeah I know, I'm not doint this just because I like the gui btu I already have Darwin on a CD, that is the version I can download from opensource.apple.com, not macOSX I have.

Waht does anyone think about this:
i have 2 hardrives 1 linux, 1 xp pro
neither knows the other exists.
I'd liek to put in a 3rd drive(i have space on ide, etc) and have it contain the boot loader
is this going to work, and how should I go about doing it ?

The original, short answer was the correct one. Grub IS in current use and IS included on almost all recent Linux distros and IS installable with those distros' installation processes.
