mandrake system specs

Hey. What is the minimum requirment to rum mandrake 8.2 or 9. I know its really low but what is it to be able to run kde or something not just the text mode.

hmm...

nowadays Mandy is getting more and more bloated - so your main concern should be disk space. I'd say mebbe 8gig minimum. This is the reason i stopped usin g that distro (same reason with RedHat).

As for the CPU speed - my p2 350 ran kde just fine with Mandy 8.smthg.

May i recommend a diff. distro? Gentoo is my personal favorite. No rpms, no bloat, very customizable and it has great community. I shut up now

**Recommended hardware for Mandrake Linux 9.0



A complete list of supported hardware is available at http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/hardware.php3

**Processor: an x586-class or above processor is required. This includes Intel Pentium I/II/III/IV, AMD K6/II/III, AMD Duron, AMD Athlon/XP/MP. Multi-processor machines are supported.
**Memory: at least 64 MB is required; 128 MB is recommended.
**Hard disks: IDE and SCSI hard disks are supported. Most SCSI and RAID controllers are supported.
**Hard disk size: At least 100MB is required, 1GB is recommended.
**USB and USB 2.0: most USB devices are supported.
**CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives and burners: Most IDE and SCSI models are supported.
**Graphic cards: Most ISA, PCI and AGP cards are supported, including 3D hardware acceleration.
**Network adapters: Most ISA, PCI and USB network cards are supported. Most modems (except "WinModems"), RNIS and DSL devices are supported.
**Printers: Most Inkjet and Laser printers are supported. Most "WinPrinters" are not supported.
**Sound Cards: All SoundBlaster-compatible soundcards are supported.
**Laptops: Most laptops are supported.
**Misc.: Numerous TV cards, graphics tablets, scanners, webcams, digital cameras and FireWire devices are supported.


I justed installed Mandrake 9 and I have to say is that this version is sweet...

Use this as a guideline.

I have a laptop (P120/72MB/2.1GB) on which I run Mandrake 8.2, using (primarily) IceWM as my GUI. It is not fast, but it is stable, and will run such heavyweights as OpenOffice.org 1.0.1.

The key is to focus more on RAM than CPU speed. You can also run almost all of what's important on a 2 - 3GB drive.
