LINUX for beginners
As I am shortly going to be having a spare machine I thought I would install a copy of Linux but having absolutely no experience of Linux whatsoever I am not sure which version, where to get it from or if there are any sites which offer advice for people in my situation.
All comments welcome. |

Ok - If I had posted this in the right place then I wouldn't have needed to post at all.
Thanks to the Mod that moved this to a more sensible location. |

I just installed Red Hat Linux 8.0 2 days ago, and before that I had never used Linux at all. Everything went just fine, I now have it setup as a dual boot along with winXP. The only thing that seemed risky to me was when I picked the 'auto-matic' disk partitioning tool during setup, but it all turned out ok, even setup my internet account, all my hardware was (as far as I can tell) setup right too. I think maybe the newer versions of Linux (no matter what kind or where you get it) are way easier then they used to be. The Linux OS itself includes alot of other software along with it, which I thought was really cool, way more then Microsoft includes with there OS's (not including OEM) and it only cost me $30 too!
