your .02 on fastest, most performance-oriented distro?

Yeah, what is it? This will be on a dual p2 setup.

Hi,

I think any distro can be fast. Just depends on what you want to do with it and how much you load on it.

That said, Gentoo is considered fast because you compile everything from source so it is optimized for your particular box. But I've read reports from a fairly large number of users who will tell you that for them Mandrake 9.0 was faster than Gentoo ! Primarially because Mandy is coded for the i586 I suspect. Debian and its' clones and RedHat are probably not as fast as some of the other distros because they are compiled for the i386. To them compatability is more important. But if you really want speed, then I would recommend an LFS system. With no more on it then you really truely need.
