filter-west login: -- Debian GNU Linux
This file server is using Debian GNU Linux and I am at the point where it says filter-west login:
Anyone know how to get by this login. |

Hi,
If the place where you got the machine from didn't give you the root password, you won't be able to do much with it. I think this would be a good opportunity for you to dump everything and reload Linux again. It may be abit of a learning curve if you only know windows, but it is do-able and can be and interesting challenge.

Is there any reason why I couldn't or shouldn't run Windows NT4 instead of Linux. I have a feeling that it might be easier to handle since it's closer to Win98 which I use.

Kind of depends upon what you want to do with this machine, and if you already have the NT4. I'd probably be tempted to put Mandrake or RedHat on it, since they are free alternatives. Please note that many versions of windows, don't have clue what to do with an existing linux partition, so you may have to get a linux cd and remove the pre-existing linux partitions with the linux install program, just to blank the disk for a win install, anyhow.

Good point. That did cross my mind as to how to get rid of Linux.
