Have had 10 attempts at loading the last word in stability -LINUX. SUSE6.4 to be exact. Stuffed up my computer something horrible each time until I realised that its a load of Nordic junk. It would not even recognise a sound card which is listed in its own help site as supported.
It does not self load as claimed in the YAST2 publicity blurb (had to resort to a floppy emergency disk to get to the basic screen view), it is definitely not user friendly and it gobbles up MBR and corrupts it before you can reach the panic button. Getting sick of the WIN98 Welcome screen after each event. Any other good ideas around before I go back to the trusty Amiga one disk at a time system.

If one flavor of Linux does not work for you, there are plenty more. Try using Mandrake or RedHat. Maybe your experience will be better.

Umm .. what is your query?? You've asked for "ideas" but what ideas for what? You havent told us what your hardware is. All we have is vague points about your MBR and soundcard. The errors are rarely kernel/Linux oriented as much as it is operator oriented. There are an 'n' number of variables that U couldnt have accounted for.
Hopefully you will be able to elucidate what you need if you need ideas. Cheers. |

You know if you don't use Linux, then you will be missing a very powerful OS. You may not realise it, but Linux has more power than windoze will ever have. It IS a complex environment to use for starters, that I know after similar troubles. But when every piece of hardware is configured for Mr Gates, you can see the troubles that Linux hackers have in trying to get Linux to work for everybody. (Just try to configure a SoftModem!) So you had a bad experience with one flavour of Linux, but there are many out there, just like mairving suggested. It is not hard to get rid of Linux if you want to try a different distro. But like Ex-Static-Cling wrote, if you ask for help it will be there, but we need information.
Have fun. |
