AT&T Unix System V
I'll try and make this short. I have old, circa 1991, "Real World" bookkeeping software that I would like to start to use again. I had it operating on an AT&T 386WGS, 22Mhz, with a 120 meg HD. It worked great! AT&T Unix System V, 16 user licence. The computer crashed at the same time as business was doing the same thing, and I was unable to keep it running. I found an almost identical computer that had the same operating system which I bought and used for a short time. The vendor crashed and burned, so I can't go back to them for a copy. I now have a PII I would like to use but can't find the operating system to load. Is there any way for me to get my hands on another copy of this operating system without having to shell out a fortune? I would assume I have the licence to use this operating system on 2 computers. I have 2 MFM, (I think thats what they are called) hard drives, but can't access them, and wouldn't be able to get the operating sytems off of them anyway.

That Software may load on a Linux system.. Linux is a spin off of unix and I believe the same kernel..
I still work on and see a few systems out there with that software load on them, If I get the pleasure to scrap any of them I'll keep my eyes out for the unix disks.. Most of those did go out with Y2k for most of our customers, we sent them letters that if they didn't upgrade before y2k we will be ending support at that time or soon as their current contract was up, but I just may be able to scrounge up some disks for ya..

ktkendall;
I appreciate that very much. I was able to test y2k on one of the computers I was able to boot up back in '97, or '98. Everything worked fine. Software wise anyway. The computer itself didn't work fine for more than an hour or so. Mike |
