Hi All!,
I'm trying to get my CD R-RW to work with RedHat 6.2. I have a HP 8250i. The man pages aren't too clear for me. Could anyone recommend some reading for me? The drive shows up on the boot sequence correctly, I think I just need to add the mount point for it. But I'm not too clear on how to do it yet. Everything I've read so far, when it gets to that point in the instructions tells me to go read more Docs. But they don't seem to say what I need to read. All suggestions are gladly recieved. Thanks Much! OOPS!

I have a similar HP drive in Mandrake so it should work the same. If I have left out any steps Ex-Static Cling will let you know.
1.) Add a line in /etc/lilo.conf to read append="hdd=ide-scsi" 2.) Create an entry in mnt called cdrom2 (if you already have another CD). 3.) Add a line to /etc/fstab /mnt/cdrom2 /mnt/cdrom2 supermount fs=iso9660, dev=/dev/cdrom2 0 0 Once you reboot that should do it. Plenty of good programs out there for burning CD's. I use XCDroast. I like it better than some of the others. |

Just a quick note
to add on to Mairving's reply .. hdd is dependent of course on your device settings on the IDE bus.
& to further your understanding of CDRW's under linux check out .. http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO.html HTH |

Thanks Guys!
I will try your suggestion tonight mairving. I will let you know how it turns out. Ex-Static, I printed out that Help file and now have it in my Linux folder. I still tend to be pretty green at this Linux stuff yet. Although, I'm slowly getting there. ![]() Thanks Again! OOPS! |

Hi again,
mairving, I tried your suggestion. All went well until I tried to mount the drive. I got an error message that says "(mntent) Line 8 in /etc/fstab is bad. Mount: can't find /mnt/cdrom2 in /etc/fstab or mtab". I double and triple checked the line in /etc/fstab, but can't find any entry error. I do have 2 cdrom drives, a read only and the cd r-rw. Both cdroms are on the secondary channel with the cd r-rw as master and the cdrom as slave. Linux is on its' own drive, which is set as slave on the primary channel. Am I think correctly that I need to add something else to /mnt/cdrom2 line in /etc/fstab to point linux to the right mount point? As an aside, I have "discovered" vi. I like that little text editor. Pretty slick! ![]() Thanks again for the help! OOPS! |

Hello Again!
I got the cd r-rw to work. All I did was move the line Iadded in /etc/fstab up 2 lines, and it worked. Don't know why. I just did a cut & paste then rebooted. I didn't think postion mattered in that file. Now I just need to find x-CDRoast and I should be set. Thanks again to you guys!! OOPS! |
