cant get online
I cant seem to surf!
I have Red Hat Linux 8.0 US Robotics PCI hard modem The modem will dial up, hangup dial up again, but never fully connect. I have the following settings: Automatically obtain IP address with dialup. Auto obtain DNS. Let PPP do all authentication, dial mode: manual modem port: modem0 Modem device /dev/tty/S4 baud rate 57600 flow control: hardware Hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain should I put in my ISP DNS numbers? If so just where should I put them? This started happening after I did a reingstall, before that I was able to get online no problem, did the reinstall because I couldnt use my CD-RW now that works but I cant surf.

I'm still thinking about his problem, but I haven't experienced it in Linux. I did experience a problem installing a PCI hardmodem in Mandrake, but that problem had to do with setting the modem's IRQ and serial port addressing. This problem is apparently something else since Redhat can find and dial the modem, but it hangs up before fully connecting. I am trying to remember what was wrong years ago when I experienced a similar problem in Windows. As I recall it required a call to my ISP.

Prolly the authentication method is not correct. Change it around and see if it works.
