Internet Sharing on a Linux box?
Hi, I have 2 NIC cards on my Linux box. One is directly connected through the Internet. The 2nd NIC is connected to my local network. Can someone give me a detailed step by step of how successfully enable Internet sharing through my Linux box, Redhat 8 specifically? I seem to be doing something wrong.
If possible, please let me how to do it without IPchains and Masquerading, as that should not be necessary. I know that there is a way to successfully accomplish this simply by enabling IP forwarding and correctly setting up my static routing tables. But it seems I might be doing something wrong. |

I'm going to move this one to the Alternative Operating Systems forum - and leave a redirect here. Hopefully the Linux gurus will find it there quicker than here.

You might want to look at this simple howto . Of course it talks about IPchains and Masquerading, so it might seem too complicated. The simplest way to do what you want to do is to buy a router with a built in switch and connect your internet connection and both computers to the router. That way you won't have to turn both on to connect the Windows machine to the Internet.
