Asus K7V with onboard promise Controller AMD Athalon 1G I am wonder specifically if the operating system will support the promise controller and will actually be allowed to utilize the 8 ide devices that the asus board braggs it can handle. If it can ...I am spending some mooolah. |

There are "beta" Promise drivers for their ATA66 controllers on the Promise website. I'm not sure about the controller on the mobo, although I would think it's pretty similar if not the exact same chip/driver.
Give em a try, see what works and what doesn't. Never know until you try. Anything on the two ATA33 channels should work fine out of the box. http://www.promise.com Xayd |

Hey Ex,
I got the same problem here. I installed Red Hat 7 on my dual cpu system and I can't boot off the PCI promise ATA/100 controller. Should I try the beta ATA/66 drivers from Promise unti the 2.4 Kernel comes out? Also check out this site: http://www.aslab.com They have a bootdisk there that supposedly supports the Promise aTA/100 controller but I haven't tried it yet. Also I'm not running linux on both of my processors, one of them is getting ignored. I'm assuming the 2.4 Kernel will fix these and other issues, any thoughts? Suggestions? TIA |
