mandrake 8.1 second hd problem
i just rebuilt my cyrix 266 with a second hd, network card and voodoo3 3000.
i reinstalled mandrake. i chose to install on first hd, and let mandrake do the partitioning itself. (beginner install) Now i cannot access the second drive. it is recognized as /hdc, but it seems like its completely swap space !. there is already swap space on my primary hd. can i repartition from in kde? how can i access my second drive? I was just reading the post from force_flow and maybe i can simply format the second drive to fat32 from a win98 boot disk? i only want to use it as extra datascpace

Yep, Mandrake has been known to do that with blank drives. I've never tried to reformat a second drive and then let Mandrake try to find it. It might work. If there is nothing on that drive to save, give it a try. You won't hurt your install. Just make sure that Harddrake is turned on in your services to dectect it on boot up.
OOPS!

You can also open a terminal, switch user to your root user, then start diskdrake. Be very careful that you don't screw up your good drive!!
You can use diskdrake to select the drive, build your partitions, setup the desired filesystem(s), and then format the other drive. |

thanks for the help.
it took me a while to find out everything bit i got it working apparently the second hd was part swap and part ext2 with no mount point. i reformatted the drive to entire ext2, edited /etc/fstab to mount it under my home folder. that diskdrake is a very nice program. the ease of use is even better than partition magic. (share somewhat same layout) |
