Internet on Mandrake 9.0

Hi,

I have just installed Mandrake 9.0 this evening. I set up the internet and it dials up and connects just fine

But I can't seem to actually use it. I open Konquerer or Mozilla and it says cannot find www.google.com or any other website (after about 2 mins of trying)

So, it seems to be connected but doesn't work once it is

Any ideas? I am not completely new to Linux but fairly, so go easy on me and don't worry about patronising. Just want to get it working

Also, I installed TuxRacer but the graphics are screwed, where can I get linux drivers for my TNTII?

Thanks,

And just to let you know, I tried a few ping commands:

127.0.0.1 worked
192.168.0.1 worked
The IP it gave me for my 'local address' when connected worked
The IP it gave me for the 'remove address' (The ISP's IP) when connected worked

No websites worked

Pings on www.google.com and other websites don't work

The Internet is connected but doesn't work, have I typed in something incorrectly during setup?

I wasn't sure what to put so I just put 192.168.0.1 for my local gateway etc. Perhaps I should re-install and just not put anything for where I'm not sure?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi,

Sounds like you have the same problem I've had. The firewall is causing you problems I think. Go into the Control Center and try and disable Shorewall to test. Then try to connect to a web site. I've had the very same problem. Haven't been able to figure it out sadly. The best advise I've gotten is to remove IPTables and shorewall, Then try to re-install them both. I've done it a dozen times. No joy yet. I think the trouble itself lies in IPTables. but I've not learned enough to hand edit the rules yet.

HTH,
OOPS!

OK, I'll give it a go. I don't really know what I'm doing though so I'll give it a go

I'll let you know in about 10 mins if it worked or not.

Cheers,

Jim

Right, found the firewall settings and it said "The ShoreWAll package needs to be installed, do you want to install it..?"

Guess that's not the problem then!
