Linux on top of WinXP
Does anyone know a good Linux distribution that will install and run on Windows XP Pro?
I would like to start learning Linux but have only a laptop and don't want to bother with a whole partition and install when i just want to do the basics. Anyone have any suggestions? TIA -Zeqe |

A dual boot. Have XP on its own partition and Linux on the other.
If you only have 1 partition, I would suggest using partitionmagic to make a partition while leaving your files in XP intact. I tried putting mandrake on the same partition as XP, and that turned out to be a disaster. Since the 2 O/S's couldn't really "see" each other, it looks like they both wrote to the HDD where each O/S was storing their files. As a result, I had 2 corrupted O/S's, so I had to reformat.

Hi Zeqe, check out KNOPPIX:
http://www.knoppix.org/ No need to install anything, just boot from the CD. |
