fqpissed Red Hat 7.2

I have been playing with Red Hat 7.2 again. It seems as if I just can't leave it alone. Lord knows why! It continues to frustrate me every time.
To begin with some background...
I did the install from CD ROM on a HP Omnibook XE3. 6xx MHz Celeron , 192 MB of RAM (actually 256 but that is another story!), Savage IX video, External monitor, USB HP CD RW, USB wireless Optical mouse, Logitech wireless Keyboard. 7 port USB hub. Well to say the least, I was not optimistic. everytime I have played with Linux it has ended in disaster.
Well, I had just finished installing WinXP Pro and had it up and running. I have this cool 60GB HD and had room to play with. So I fired up Partion Magic 7 and made up a swap partion and a ext2 partion.
To my great surprise, the install went smoothly. No problems at all. Total time was maybe 35 minutes. Even my network connection worked! Never had I seen Linux work like this. OK, so I decided that maybe it was just luck. So I format and do a couple of installs, playing with different options. Everything went smoothly. So I start getting this "maybe Linux isn't so bad after all" feeling and decide that I will do some objective comparisons between the two operation systems on the same hardware and that I would make an objective and unbiased attempt to do everything that I can do in windows with Linux.
Every thing went fine..up until I switched my desktop from Gnome to KDE. I enabled the screensaver then went to breakfest. I came back and guess what? The computer was locked up tighter than a miser's wallet! Nothing I could do would unlock the machine. So I did a manual reboot. Linux comes up with a cmd line log-in (I choose graphical before). I could startx and get gnome to run, but not kde. every reboot after was the same problem. So I did a reinstall. This is where I am now. I still intend to go forth with my project and I will make every effort to bore you with the details! Oh, by the way I am writing this in Kword and will paste it on the website using one of these strange Linux browsers!

An update....touchpad won't work. Scanner is dead also. Neither was unexpected.
Tried using my notebook in mobile mode (ie disconnected all external stuff) It will only boot to a cmd prompt. However, if I hook up another USB external mouse it seems to run fine. Going to take it home tonight an see if I can get DUN to work.

Truth to tell, with this Linux stuff I'm not sure of anything! ;-)
That is part of the fun though. I did some more playing..ahemm..work this weekend. Seems the modem doesn't work, so no dial-up. Working that issue right now.
More later...
