linux software
hey everyone, Ive just about had it with windows, I guess Im just bored, and I am toying with the idea of switching over to mandrake linux 9.1, I do have a few questions though
mainly, what kind of bundled software does the Dloaded version have...ex, does it have a reasonable word processor, internet browser, and so forth. Also, does it come with a windows emu so I can have at least a chance of runing some of my win based games. thanks for the help everyone |

Yes, it has a word processor. It looks okay, but I haven't really used it yet. It comes with two different browsers; mozilla and another one, but I can't remember the name.
![]() It comes with a whole list of arcade-type games. That's a plus. ![]() I haven't tried installing windows-based games. I think this may help with win-based programs: http://www.winehq.com/ I haven't tried it, though.

Not sure about 9.1 but the download edition of Mandrake 9 that i got free with a pc mag comes with tons of software including openoffice which has word proc, spreadsheet, presentation and more, also it has lots of graphics programs cd burning software and according to the notes on the cd 1700 yes 1700 individual software packages to use though I have never counted them.
It has mozilla and konkeror browsers in 9 . If your interested Opera have their browser for Linux that i guess you can download for free. Last edited by Dangermouse1; 04-30-2003 at 02:07 PM. |

I think that has been discused in another thread here and from what I remember its unlikely Windows games will work. If your games ae important to you you can have a dual boot system and still play the games on your Windows part.

For the windows games thingy, some rare games have native linux support like Neverwinter Nights, UT2K3, Q3 Arena.
Another option is using WineX: www.transgaming.com There you can find a list of supported games, the software isn't free though. |
