New to Linux and setting up Redhat 6.1 It asks for partition and sizes for each. I have no manual for this. can someone tell me what each partition size needs to be?

How big is your disk?
What is the machine used for? Will it be a server or a workstation? |

There are three you must create. Boot, Root, and Swap. Swap is the virtual memory portion of the drive. Up to you there, depending on your drive size and what you'll be doing. 50 megs is about the minimum, I generally give it about 200 just to be on the safe side.
The Boot partition is max 16 megs, which is basically the Linux boot sector of your hard drive. Go ahead and give it 15 or 16 megs. The Root partition is everything else. If you want it to take the remaining portion of the drive, just check off the option "grow to fill disk" when you create it, and it'll take the rest of the space. Xayd |

I know this isnt recommended much for base installs but its a really really really nice thing to have separate /var & /tmp partitions too. The size of which is going to depend on the amt of data ur linux box is going to contend with.

Thanks, It will be a work station. I tried letting it make it's own partitions when selecting workstation option. It is a P-166 32mg w/ 2,1 gig. I must have done something wrong because it runs like a 486 with win 3.1. That's what it reminds me of anyway.
