Tape Backup Software for Linux

Hi all,

Does anyone know of some free or relatively inexpensive tape backup software for linux? I've found some software out there but the prices are pretty hefty. Thanks in advance.

There's a free program called taper on the mandrake install CDs. I think it might be on red hat as well.

Can't you just 'tar' files onto the device
