My slackware 9 install works great.
I got everything working with ease... but whenever i serf the net, on a few sites (the download page for java, java.sun.com for example) my system locks up... compleatly, as if everything just halts. and it takes a few reboots after each lockup before it can boot with out any problems. It even affects my windows install after a lockup. I tried reinstalling slack right from the distro CD, but the problem does not go away... any ideas? |

If you suspect that java is a problem, try disabling java in your browser and see if the problem goes away. Flash plugins have also been known to cause lockups so you can try removing flash if you have it installed. Also, next time you have a lockup, check in /var/log/messages for any error messages which might give you some clue as to what is going on.

Wow this thread is old....
I thought I would tell you what I did. the JDK-1.3.1 was the cause of the lock-ups. Somehow it conflicted with another bit of software on my computer. After a fresh install of 9.1 (which uses 1.4.1 as the JDK/RE) all is fine. I fixed this some time ago. |
