You can get one of the "for dummies" books for the distrobution you want.
They come with a distro of whatever the book is geared towards. For instance, I got a Red Hat for dummies book and it came with RH distro CDs.

www.linuxiso.org has virtually every distro available for download.
EDIT: Sorry, I should have read it more closely. LinuxISO is for dl only. |

I've tried several and keep coming back to mandrake. It's very newbie friendly and has good gui configuration utilities that aren't found in other distros. It also has the best multimedia support of the ones I've tried.

If you buy some of the Linux mags they often come with all the cd`s you need. I got mandrake 9 free with a mag which also gave very good instructions on what to do with them.

That's a great idea, Kstatefan40. Maybe I should donate copies of Linux to my local library...
Also some computer shops may have a Linux head who gives away free distros. I have one here that does. He hands out rh9 all the time and gentoo on request. |

Kstatefan & Blakhart that is a killer idea. I almost always burn a couple of extra CDs when I dowload the iso. I think I'll spred these copies around a bit. What a great public service!
