dsl on lynux

Can I setup my Red Hat v8 Lynux to use the sbc yahoo dsl that I have? I know they say lynux is not supported but I thought that was maybe just because of the software they provide is only for windows.

Hey - look at that. I'm trying to do the exact same thing, only I'm running RedHat 7.0.

I'm also running SBC Yahoo DSL. I just ran a clean install of Windows, and all I did was install the drivers for my ethernet card and I'm online, so I believe it should be the same in Linux. I just can't figure out how to load the drivers (or is it modules in Linux?) because I know very little about Linux...

I believe it's possible, and I'm working on it. So far, I haven't figured out how to set the NIC and DCHP. Let's keep in contact about this, eh?

PS: here are links to two other hooks I've got out...

I havent really checked it out yet, but I think I will. My computer has onboard Ethernet and Lynux already knows it's there so no need to do anything for that. If I get it going I post how I did it. I still would like to hear from someone that knows Lynux better then me, as I dont know it very well either.

If you have PPPoE you need Roaring Penguin's PPPoE client for Linux.

Google it, don't have the link offhand but it works fine.

I think rp-pppoe is installed in RedHat installs by default -- try running the command adsl-setup as root -- if its installed it will take you through a script that will setup your DSL based on the parameters you enter.

Regards,

Michael

I have two linux machines on my SBC DSL router. One Mandrake 8.1 and the other RedHat 8.0. (Both hanging off a hub connected to the router's ethernet connector.)All you have to do is set your machine up to DCHP and the router does the rest. If you want to use a phoneline or USB connection you have to use windows. If you use Ethernet, Linux is no problem. As I said I have two linux boxes using the SBC DSL router. I can even get into the router setup from either. No special drivers required.
