Make Linux see my network

Up until now I have been using Linux mainly for fun, as an alternative to Windows. But now I want to actually start using Linux as my main OS. Is there a way I can get Linux to see my Linksys router through a Microsoft USB network adapter? I really want to be able to get on the internet now.

Thanks

The router is no problem. I have a Linksys router that works fine. Your usb network adapter will be problematic at best. Invest $15 in a regular PCI NIC and it should work fine.
