Linux...

I'm sort of interested in trying Linux and seeing what it's like and such. Can you reccomend which company to buy from, which version and so on?

www.linuxiso.org

Has most of the different distros available for download.

You may want to try starting out with Mandrake 9.1

You don't have to buy it. You can download any major version for free provided you have a high speed connection and a burner.

The 3 most poplar are RedHat, Mandrake and SUSE. I would probably try Mandrake or RedHat. You can get iso images to make bootable CD's for most distros here.

Red Hat 9 and SuSE 8.2 are both good. Can't really comment on Mandrake, never used it myself. SuSE gives you a "LiveEval" version (single CD) that you can use without having to install Linux on your harddrive. it's a great way to see what Linux is all about. Also, it makes a great rescue disk should your OS dump and die!
Try as many differnt distros as you can, each on is unique and does things a bit differnt. Also consider FreeBSD. It is another free *nix system. It is not as user friendly during install, but everybit as powerful (if not more so) as any Linux distro.

have fun!
