ISA sound card

I can't get Mandrake 9.1 to recognize my ISA SoundBlaster 16 sound card. I've gone into sndconfig, where the auto-detect failed, and selected it from a list, but it still cannot detect it. I can't find any weird settings in my BIOS. The card worked in Windows. The only online help I've been able to find instructed me to edit and recompile the kernel. The kernel how-to, however, proved to be too dense and jargon-ridden for me to make any sense of. Can anyone suggest an easier fix?

You might have to manually setup the IRQ and DMA settings for your soundcard. Figure these settings out and try to configure soundcard again manually (instead of autodetecting). HTH
