Boot disk
I'm about to install Mandrake Linux 9.1. I want to make a floopy that I can use to boot to mandrake so I don't have mess with my master boot record. I don't want to change the MBR becuase last time I tried to install a linux os I messed up with the boot loader and couldn't get into windows or figure out how to change it. I ended up wiping out my whole hard drive to fix it. So how do I make a bootable foopy for mandrake linux 9.1?

It will prompt you during the setup process to make a boot disk.

I just learned a neat trick from someone while waiting in a computer shop. The principle is that the computer will boot the first drive it finds regardless if it is a lone slave or master.
If you use a hot swap bay, you can load one OS on one hard drive and another OS on a second hard drive. Leave one hard drive in the computer either as secondary CS or slave. When you want to boot the other OS (which is in the hot swap bay), just push that hard drive in. Just be sure to have the slave hard drive disconnected when you install the other OS! |
