Mandrake 9.1 install problems
Hi all,
I've been trying all day to get Mandrake 9.1 to run on the following system: P4 1.8A Asus P4B533 2x 36 Fujitsu SCSI hdd Matrox G550 AGP video LSI U160 controller 3Com 905B 10/100 pci network card HP tape drive HP cdrw The problem is as follows: After the install (before the initial bootup) I go ahead and configure the network settings for the 3Com-- just plain simple DHCP. When I reboot and login using KDE the system freezes at "Initializing System services". Now, if I don't configure my network card during the install, the interface (eth0) will fail during bootup. I can then login fine. The problem is when I try to configure my network then from within KDE. The NIC then won't obtain an IP from the router, i.e. it says it can't connect. This one has me baffled. I have tried switching the card from one pci slot to another-- still the same problem. I know the card is ok since I just used when I had windows installed. Is there anyway I can tell what might be causing this freeze? Thanks in advance. |

Hi mike,
Thanks for the reply. I eventually got things working by booting in failsafe mode and disabling a couple services. It is unclear as to which one was causing the problem, but everything is working fine now. Thanks again for the help. |
