I would use Red Hat or Mandrake if i were you.

Personerly i would use Red Hat 9, although i like mandraje 9.1 also.

SuSe 8.2 is also very easy to use, and lets you access your windows files without hassle.
As for websites:
Distrowatch.com ...surf around, read a lot about different distros (on the top, second box klick on "major distributions to read about some).
Linuxjunior.org ...good user forum
Linuxiso.org ...good place for downloading free distros
linux.org ...also good for info

enjoy

I have used Mandrake 9 and then changed to Redhat 9 just to see what it was like and I think they are both very good. They both come with loads of useful software that will enable you to do anything you need.

It all depends upon what you want to do with Linux. If you want to play around with it, use MDK or RH. If you want a server, I prefer Slack. I personally have developed a dislike for Redhat. I don't like jumping through their hoops and rpm's are the worst unless you want to do it Redhat's way.
