Make sure that the file is executable, ls -l will give you the permissions. If it is executable, then do you get any error message when you run it. Here is an example:
Quote:
ls -l configure
-rwxr-xr-x 1 1078 1078 56615 May 21 2002 configure*
This shows that the owner of the file has full rwxr permissions, a member of the group has xr and everybody has x. So if you ran this:
Quote:
./configure --help
[hang on a moment, generating help]

Usage: configure [options]
Options: [defaults in brackets after descriptions]
General options:
--quiet, --silent do not print messages
--verbose, -v print even more messages
--shadow[=DIR] switch to a shadow tree (under DIR) for building

Stand-alone options:
--help, -h print this message
This is the configure file for Apache.
