www.google.com/linux is your friend.

One great site for finding out about Linux apps, but not the only one, is sourceforge.org. There is a related site is freshmeat.net.

One highly rated video player is "mplayer". You can see some details about it at http://freshmeat.net/projects/mplaye...c_id=127%2C128

Typically, a product called "xine" is included with most mainstream Linux distros. It, too, has a good rep. As for audio, if you're interested, "xmms" is very much like WinAMP, down to the skins.

As for downloading, that is done through your browser just like in the Windoze world. Until you understand a little more about Linux, which really won't take long, you will want to stick with Mandrake's main "package" format -- the RPM. RPM can be very good, but very frustrating. You can also download installable binaries, which are completely self-contained.

There's alot to Linux, some strange, but all of it becomes clear as you study and use it.

Linux is NOT Windoze or even DOS -- it is much more and becoming much more powerful in terms of usability on the desktop.
