I figured out that i needed to unzip it, i did that. When I click on the installer icon, i get to the part were it creates the directory /usr/local/mozilla and a thing pops up that says Error [-624] Cannot creat directory please choose another. What have I done wrong? Do I need to be logged in as the root user? If so, how? Usauly when I need to be the root user a login screen comes up asking for the root password, and so far I havn't been able to find any other way to become the root user.

blue gundam, you need to log in as root or "su - " from the console, the readme file will contain specifics on how to install mozilla

Just for the record. Mozilla 1.3 is usually on Mandrake 9.1 CDs, while the latest version is 1.4 -- with 1.5 available but not yet completely stable.
When you plan to get a newer version of Mozilla, it's relly important that you read the instructions on the web site for installation. They are very specific. Unless you really want to run two versions of Mo', you need to uninstall the executable, normally installed at /usr/loca/mozilla again following the instructions at the site. Also note that to completely remove an older Mozilla that came in an rpm based distro, you should so that by removing the rpm package and not just deleting the executable. Hopefully, future Mozilla installers will take care of a lot of the housekeeping for you. Mozilla is normally installed in two stages -- as root and then as the normal user. The initial work with the "tar" file and with the initiall install script must be done as root. Once it's set up, then you run the executable as your normal user to set up the directories and files needed. |
