Have you setup a user on the NT for the Linux box. You can try connecting via smbclient smblient //PDC_NETBIOS_NAME/sharename -U administrator. This should ask for a password.

Try the following changes:
  • Make sure workgroup equals domain name
  • security = domain
  • password server = *
  • join the domain smbpasswd -j domain_name -U administrator
  • Restart samba smbd SIGHUP
  • Try connecting via smbclient as mentioned before.

If you set security to domain, the windows username will work. Just have to make sure the users are added to both the Linux box and the PDC.
