mandrake question
I have windows XP pro installed on my computer right now, but want to run mandrake on it too. I just want mandrake to play around with. So I was wondering how I should partition my 80gig hard drive for it. I have partition magic, but have never used it before, so I dont know exacatly what I should be doing. Also, do I boot from disc, install mandrake, and then partition it? Thanks for any help, I'm new to this.

If your 80gig drive is just one big partition then use partition magic or the XP utility to split it up and create a new partition for Linux. When installing Mandrake it should give you the option to do this also. Just make sure you don't replace the Windows partition with Linux. Also, before partitioning you should run defrag to make sure that there is no data scattered over on the "new" partition that might get lost. If you are using NTFS then this might not be a concern, but it is good to play it safe.

Ok, thanks. So I should partition with partition magic before I install mandrake. And would it be enough if I only made like a 20 gig partition for mandrake? Because I only want to play around with linux for now. Thanks.

10GB would be more than enough if your not storing a lot of data in the mandrake partition.
