Red Hat 9 - What is it good for?
I installed Red Hat into my friends computer since he just lsot his Windows Me Cd and couldnt boot up his system. He brought his software to see if I can help him with editing. Turns out every single one of his cd's wouldnt install anything. What is Red Hat good for if it isnt compatible with anything?

Hi,
The short answer is yes and no. Some Windows software can be run under Linux using WINE. Mostly Microsoft office and such. Some games can also be made to work, such as HalfLife. But mostly no. If you want further info on WINE check out www.winehq.org. It sounds like your buddy wants to do photo editing. I would recommend trying the GIMP. Very powerful, popular, yet free (as in beer). It should be included on the install discs. If not just Google GIMP and you will hit it. It will do everything Photoshop can do. Just remember, this is a totally different OS, so programs are also different. There are programs availble to do what ever you wish with Linux. Check out this link http://www.gnu.org/software/software.html HTH, OOPS! |
