Linux Mandrake
Hey everybody,
I got myself a free P2 333Mhz from a friend and gonna put in Linux Mandrake on it. I want to put in a NIC so I can hook it up to my LAN. How would I go abouts installing the drivers? Just the basic procedures. Wont have everything done for a few more weeks, as I need more parts for it(monitor, hard drive, cd-rom) . TIA. |

I think any 8139 (realtek based) card will work. Install it in the pci, power on, load lin, etc..etc...then become root and type modprobe 8139too (if it hasn't already done it)

I agree with the 8139 Realtek-based NIC. Most any common, fairly new NIC will work actually.
Install all your hardware, set the CD drive as your first boot device, if your BIOS allows, put the install CD in and boot the machine. If the BIOS won't allow a CD boot, then write a boot disk image to a floppy, set the floppy as the first boot device, put both media into their respective drives, and boot the machine. Mandrake has a fairly intuitive installer, just read whatever it is showing and asking you. It will be pretty simple. |
