Proftpd help needed

Hi all,

I've been trying to get my linux MD 9.1 box setup to be an FTP server today and have found this to be (surprisingly) more challenging than Samba. I downloaded and installed Proftpd and set the server type as inetd. I created a ftp user and an ftp group. I also created an ftp-users group and a test1 user (at this point I was trying a lot of different things). After I couldn't get it to work, I tried following the guide on this site: http://hayl.webhop.net/ I basically followed the guide exactly, I even cut and pasted the sample proftpd.conf file that is on that site and used. At this point all I can do from my windows box is logon to the ftp server with my linux username and password (root, and all the other users I created don't work). What I see when I get logged in is my home directory. After playing with this for a considerable amount of time today, I'm stuck. I'd like to set this up with different users, anynanimous access perhaps too, setup a bunch of FTP directories. Does anyone know how I should proceed or what I need to check? Does anyone know of a Good how-to out there for Proftpd? Thanks in advance.
