Does anyone know how to change your machine name / host name in Linux. I made an error on the install, calling my machine .mylinux.com rather than mylinux.com. This has been causing some problems with my mail.
I've changed it in /etc/hostname and restarted but it still shows up incorrectly when I do a uname -a. Any ideas?? |

Okay, I figured out where my hostname was being set (/etc/sysconfig). I used grep -r HOSTNAME /etc.
I'm still having some problems with mail though. Maybe it's just the way it works, but I can send a mail from one user to another and everything's cool. When the receipient reply's to the mail - it never arrives. I've found the message in /var/spool/mail, but it never gets delivered to the original sender. I initially thought this was a hostname problem since it's trying to reply to user@hostname (where hostname was wrong). However now that the hostname is correct, I'm not sure what to think. What does anyone else think? |
