Just installed Red Hat 9 won't start-up

I just finished the install of Red Hat 9 and am not sure what I did but I have a couple of questions. My first question is, is I used the automatic partitioning and thought that I did it correctly because I wanted to be running multiple OS, I had XP on and won't to be running both of them, but when it starts up it goes directly to Linux. I think it may have deleted everything I had on my hard drive including all my files, xp itself, I mean everything. Is there a way to find out if xp is still installed and how do I run Xp opposed to Linux. I had installed PowerQuests BootMagic but it is not running that first.

And my second problem is, when I do try to run the Red Hat OS it goes through the text scroll and then says something about setting kernel to init or something along those lines, and will not go any further. So, I am really stuck because I can't get anywhere. Please help me with this problem, I am desperate.

Not sure this will work with XP but try starting your comp. with a Win boot flopy. At the A:/ prompt type fdisk/mbr .
After flopy lite goes out remove flopy & restart computer.
Hope it works.
