can archaic comcrap become linux server?
i have a very old (circa 1995) Compaq Presario 8760 (2g hard drive, 166MHz P with MMX, 32MB 66MHz SDRAM)...very old computer, and i was wondering if i could turn this into a server for a basic web page but also with an ftp server for videos and music...i've got one running now on my new machine in windows but i'd like to be able to move this over to another computer. would this work decently and if so what kind of linux should i use? i've got red hat 9 and knoppix and both run extremely slowly on the old Comcrap...how would i go about only installing the server software or can anybody recommend a good (relatively user friendly) distro of linux with not much of a GUI to decrease system strain? i just want to experiment with this...hopefully at some point i can build a cheap server that can actually handle a decent os, but for now i wanted to try this.

Sounds like a job for a dedicated server distro like ClarkConnect or e-smith.

You can really use any. Some like RedHat and Mandrake want to install everything that there is and use a Window Manager. What I would use would be Slackware . Use the expert install and skip the Gnome, X and KDE sections and you should be okay.
