does anyone over here have some experience with gentoo? i heard it runs win32 apps pretty well . so i figure id give it a try. Currently i'm using mandrake 9.1 w kde/windowmaker. how does gentoo compare to this?

and secondary, is my hardware compatible? i wanted to install it on an abit nf7-s (nforce2) athlon2200+,apacer 256 ddr333, aopen gf4ti4200, 2x maxtor hd, lg dvd, plexwriter 24x cdrw. this pc currently runs win2kpro, i'd like to get it on dual boot.

Linux should support your hardware, it's great like that.

Myself, i'm a slackware fan

By running win32 apps well, I assume you mean that wine works better under gentoo. On that point you are correct. The rpms for wine usually suck and you wind up compiling from source anyway to get it working. But this is still wine we're talking about here with all it's limitations. Don't expect to run every windows app and you will have trouble with games unless you install winex and even then, not all games will run.
