Ouch, that really stinks. Do you have a good CD burner, and are you sure they burned properly?

do you test the downloaded file to see if it is a good down load before you burn it

Hi Darkhorse, My writer is a 'RICOH MP5125A. No problems there, I can assure you. The system that I want to instal 'LINUX' onto is a complete new build with a brand new hard drive. The first disc is no problem, it sails through the installation procedure. It is when I am asked to insert the second disc that I am told it is not the correct disc. Well if it is not the correct disc why did I go to all the bother and time to download it?. I am not a defeatist. If it means buying the package I will. Cheers, Bill (Not Gates, More of an open space)

Did you download them from the same place each time? If so try another place.

Well maybe it's just me, but dl'ing Linux(RedHat, Knoppix, Mandrake, and Slakeware) hasn't been to hard. Just set it to dl over night and the next morning it's all done. Unless you have 56k, in which case getting them would be practically impossible on your line. And if you want a good source, www.linuxiso.org is good. Many links. And also make sure to to the Checksum test. have you tried reburning them? Did you accidentally put cd#3 on cd 2 and 3? I know I almost did

There are always the GPL resellers such as Edmunds who sell quality, generally guaranteed copies of distros for a very nominal charge. I mention Edmunds because I've gotten great service without breaking the bank. There are, of course, others who provide the same service.

If you really are no longer interested, that is of course your choice. Linux is about freedom of choice - that is yours, not some other OS's dictated choices.

Hi All, Success, Following the 'Tutorial' provided by Justin Shin I have installed Red Hat Linux on the machine mentioned earlier. Many thanks Justin. The mistake I made was to burn the downloads as 'Files' and not 'Disc Images'. Linux is up and running but I only installed Disc 1 and disc 2. Having burned disc 3, what should I take off it?. I will now learn as much as I can from tutorials and following links from the 'Forum'. I will only trouble you for advice when I cant fathom out what I am trying to do. Thank you again for your responses. Cheers, Bill
